King Kamehameha Golf Club Clubhouse

While this posthumous and purpose-altered construction does not quite make it into Frank Lloyd Wright’s official canon, the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed King Kamehameha Golf Club clubhouse is quite something to behold all the same, a Lloyd Wright-lite, as it were.

I had the opportunity to get up there only once this last trip and it was the first stop of the day, meaning this is about a half hour after sunrise, making the west lines of the structure poorly lit for photos. For that I apologize; from no two angles does this structure look the same and I’ve cheated you out of most of the perspectives. I did at this point think I was going to find time another day to go back in the afternoon, and especially so i wanted to drag megan up there for a crazy clustershoot.

One of my main missions for the last Maui trip, and two weeks just there nonetheless, was to finish the island. I got on that United red-eye for Los Angeles convinced, given the helicopter trip over the west Maui range (the only way it is possible actually experience the very heart of west maui), the visit to Molokini, the discovery of the Olinda forest and bird sanctuaries, and the perilous trip around the south east of Haleakala that I had indeed accomplished what I set out to do.

But getting over maui my way is like trying to get over a relationship you ended just ‘cause you were too attached. And, don’t tell the goddess but I’ve cheated on Maui with a couple of the other islands over the years, and while I’ve always come back to her, I liked what I saw and loved how I felt in the jungles, on the shores, in the arms of Oahu and the big island. And there are three major islands whose shores I’ve not yet walked, whose sands I have not slept upon, whose jungle and high volcanic ridges I have not explored, whose tropical and life-giving lips I have not yet so much as fleetingly kissed.

So long, Frank Lloyd Wright. Umm, i think that is an allusion to a song. check my facts.
