Autumn arrived, day before today meaning yesterday and a week later than on the calendar. What a wonderful summer, warm and dry but wet where it should be, a summer of travel (even if that travel meant I missed the record highs of late July) and of adventures far and near. And photographs, and of all those days I toted the camera along and didn’t shoot a frame and the days I (gasp) left all the hardware at home. Best summer ever? Not sure it’s the ultimate, but it’s way, way up there. On the site maintenance front, the promised philosophy of my take on my own self-indulgence is still in the works, and it’s hardly neglected; I have worked hard at it but still it’s also hardly done. It’s a voyage in text, or at least I hope it ends up reading like that. As for the homework, the distributed post-processing promise, the photograph remains long selected but I’ve not got even close to my submission, soon for all of you, I promise. On the home front, yesterday I had oral surgery, a tooth snapped in two on a trance drive Saturday night (on a French fry, of all things) and I’ve begun the two month journey, one worth a bit more than the next camera and the next lens combined but about 40% covered by insurance. And divided into, well the glass lasts forever but the camera bodies really only last a few years these days and that particular molar, while back there and not smiley-cosmetic is something I use for eating, and plan to use it as such my whole life. The first part, the bit where they shave down your jaw bone, not fond of the stitches in my gum this moment (or for the next week - I’m on soft food) but I did love the nitrous. Close to pure profit for my dentist and next to free with my dental plan, nitrous oxide is like those all-night affairs we used to go to, save after the gas is turned off you’re back to earth in about 38 seconds, ready to drive home. I'm working on a mcsweeneys internet tendency article about it as you read this. i hope to submit it to their "reviews of new food" section. Today’s photo, did a lot of this scene, what with the red beach and the storm clouds, but it was the one with the peeps way off to the left that worked for me. Oh, and that was one hell of a storm when it hit; I met it four times in the car that day and each was just as deliciously dangerous. hooj.
