e-510 14mm 1/30 f/7.1 iso 100 the enormous flash gun
I’ve been meditating on my offer last post, what at the time seemed would be an easy summation has instead become a bit of a project on my part. It’s one thing to know where you are, it’s quite another to articulate it for others, even if the greatest benefit thereby is having a precise articulation tied to a moment of time for yourself for all the reflective moments of time to come.
While I’m working on that, I wanted to take the opportunity to note this August past marked the second anniversary of getting the Olympus E-510, a camera I waxed on about needing rather than wanting at the time. Some two and a half years into the 510’s product cycle, this body is long in the tooth compared to the current offerings of most manufacturers, Olympus included, and I think it will shortly be think time to step up to the new E-30 or the next single-digit pro model when it appears, most likely the former. And the next one is going to be a five-year body at least, and hopefully longer; new bodies cost lens money, and computer money, and photographic destination money. All the same, I could also wax about the 510, my most favourite body of any so far, by far. And I find it impossible to believe it's only been a part of my life for but two trips 'round the sun, even if that's included many trips far from home. But I conflate once more, and I obfuscate, a diversion if you will on any number of fronts. Ode to the 510 at some point, prolly when I replace it, and my perspective on my own photographic philosophy to come somewhat sooner.
