okay, well, day after tomorrow then, and that's today! over the last few years and two or three blogs, i have on a number of occasions now commissioned extrametrical homework assignments from my loyal readers, and with the exception of assigning a book to read that i hadn't realized was a decade out of print, the response to such tasks as overexposure, panometrical, and perogies for breakfast, to name a few, has been enthusiastic, positive, informative and a lot of fun. and then there have been the more personal and community-building photogroffee sessions, which the bunch of us are just not doing enough of anymore. and then it's now and we're less than a month away from the most important day of the year. sorta like homework, more like photogroffee, what i'd like to do is extend to everyone an invitation to join me this june 21st for the veribeginning of the verilongest day of the year, at the veribest place to be for it, the malahat lookout behind the great big rock. for recent years' photos, check here for 2002-4, and scroll down here and here for 2005. there's lots of options, you can meet me up there around 4:35am on june 21st, or better yet, at tim horton's next to kerrisdale cameras near save-on foods in saanich around 4:00, or you can prearrange (in this case i gotta sorta know you already) and i'll pick you up on the way to timmy's and later flatten the malahat forever in your imagination on the way to the lookout. if you do need a ride, the sooner you let me know the better as space is limited, especially for those taller than 5'9". hopefully a few or more sturdy souls show up, and i'd really love for many of you to be there. but honestly, if no one shows up, i'm still going, for my fifth year in a row, and honestly folks, weather permitting, if no one else shows i'll end up being the only one who's not missing out. it is in my heart a beautiful and holy moment when first the longest sun sets the summer sky afire, and it's that sunrise that sets the tone for the entire summer to come. it's a wednesday morning this year, and that might make it tough for some, but honestly i'm often up wednesdays at that hour and already at work, and even if you have to work at nine in the morning that same day, it's not half as horrible as a hangover, it's just a sleepy good feeling that lasts the whole day through. and almost certainly you'll have taken some verilovely photos. remotely, thinking krishen and craig since they can not be here, it can be like an old girlrepair homework assignment that krishen participated in three years ago, where you show everyone the solstice sunrise from 'round yer part of this big ol' world. and you know who, feel free to capture the winter solstice from your hemisphere, it's been literally since forever that i've seen a qld sunrise. and i know there are a few others of you from far away and from near who rarely or never comment or participate, and to you i extend just as warm an invite, whether to the malahat lookout or digitally from wherever is most apt wherever you are. so, davingurtonjulietylerneilrichandchrissiealisonkerryleahfezpezetc, and remotely, craigkrishenboxenheatherbrochtonyliamlesliekevincamjeffetc, and here's where i get in utter trouble both for everyone i missed and utter abuse of the justify css, let's maybe most of us make the most of this thing that maybe with luck comes along maybe but 80 times in our short lives. i'm there, anyways, both at the lookout and before that timmy ho's, hope you can make it, in essence or at least in spirit, too. what say the bunch of you? today's photo courtesy cobble hill and some sort of insatiable urge to get the hell out of town last sunday afternoon.
